The REGGIO Approach

Every child brings with them deep curiosity and potential and this innate curiosity drives their interest to understand their world and their place within it.  The 'Reggio' version of the child as competent learner has produced a strong child-directed curriculum model.  The curriculum has purposive progression but not scope and sequence.  Teachers follow the children's interests and do not provide focused instruction in reading and writing.  Reggio approach has a strong belief that children learn through interaction with others, including parents, educators and peers in a friendly learning environment.

Among educators, the first 5 years of life is commonly referred to as ‘the imprint’. Laying a foundation for early education is directly connected to the possibilities of opportunities in the child’s future.

At Buckle My Shoe, we provide a stimulating environment as well as age-appropriate experiences designed to tap into the incredible growth that is occurring in our students. Our highly experienced educators guide children through daily individualized learning while facilitating advanced social skills and an awareness of others.

We offer 3 school schedules, 5 days a week from 9am-noon, 9am-3pm or 8:30am-5:30pm and a paid lunch program provided by Little Green Gourmets. We enroll students 3 months and older (through Pre-K) at our Tribeca location, and 2 and older at our West Village Location.
