Recap 12/18-12/20

Happy Holidays! We hope that you are enjoying the winter holidays and are spending time with family and loved ones. The last few days have been filled with love celebrating our BMS family. Since we were a smaller group, we did most things mixed age this week. It has been so nice spending time with the 3s and learning from them!

On Monday we had our first karate class! The instructor, Gloria, is going to be coming on Mondays. We are excited to be learning a new thing together. We also continued working on our self-portraits and made presents for you all with the children!

Tuesday we took advantage of the nice weather and went outside to play at the park. The children were so active! They ran, jumped, and rolled around. We had a lot of fun at the park and are hoping for more nice weather days in January.

Today was the last day of school before the break, and the last day for Thomas before he moves back to St. John. We will miss Thomas and his family so much! We had a special themed beach day to celebrate Thomas. We used my Happy Lamp, a lamp that mimics the sun by sending out UV Rays, and had a big dance party. The children were very imaginative and pretended to go swimming, to lay out in the sun, and most importantly, to put on sunscreen. We had a fantastic send-off for Thomas!

Have a fantastic break, everyone! We will miss you.

Recap 12/14-12/15

Hi! We have had a gingerbread filled last two days.

On Thursday, we made a Menorah out of clay and read books about Hanukkah. We also did a science experiment, making a snowy day in a jar and spoke about the weather outside. It's been so cold and snowy! We broke out some gingerbread cookie cutters and made gingerbread people. Yvie "read" us the story of the Gingerbread Boy. Nora decided that the gingerbread people needed a house and made an elaborate house out of clay for them!

Friday was a Gingerbread day. The children had a blast sprinkling flour on the table, squishing the dough, rolling the dough, then choosing which size cookie cutter to use. The whole school smelled good while they were cooking, then we ate them after lunch. Nora was quick to let us know that she ate the head first, and Jack danced around in his chair while eating the cookie, letting us know he liked it a lot. We also painted our clay menorah and lit another "candle."

Have a wonderful weekend!

Recap 12/7-12/8

The energy in the air has been enthusiastic here at school the last few days! The children are really getting ready to celebrate the winter holidays. Reminder- Monday is Pajama Day/Polar Express Day! Before nap time, we have been listening to the story of the Polar Express. It has completely captivated the children's imaginations!

Thursday we had music with Evan. The 2s especially loved dancing to Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. They also loved strumming Evan's guitar at the end of music time! We made Christmas ornaments to decorate the tree that the full day kids picked out in the afternoon. Everyone was excited about decorating the tree the next day.

On Friday, we decorated our new Christmas tree. It was so much fun picking out where the ornaments went. We also had yoga, played with flour and trees to create a snowy winter scene, and read our new favorite, The Gingerbread Boy. Today was Sebastian's birthday (from the 3s class), so we also ate cupcakes!

We can't wait to see all of you in pajamas on Monday! Have a wonderful weekend!

Recap 11/30-12/1

Books, books, books galore! Our 2s have been loving every book that we read them and are starting to sit for longer amounts of time during circle time to listen to stories! We encourage them to ask questions, comment, and "read along" with parts that they have memorized. Whenever they engage in listening to a story, they are building valuable pre-literacy skills that someday will help them read!

On Thursday, we celebrated our love for Pete the Cat and his white shoes. We have been reading Pete the Cat book since the beginning of the year and Pete has emerged as a class favorite. We did an activity that worked on sequencing, predicting what happens next in the story, and color recognition. After the activity, we had a big dance party!

Friday, we read the story of the Gingerbread Boy again. Over the last week when we have read the story, the children have wondered what gingerbread tasted like. So, during cooking time today, we decorated ginger snap cookies with raisins and frosting to make our very own gingerbread people. The children loved decorating and then eating the cookies.

Here's some of what they said as they decorated:

Jack: "Happy"

George: "It's a cookie face"

Eliot: "Truck face"

Kyan: Yum face, yummy face face"

Thomas: "A monster"

Henry: "Happy"

Have a wonderful weekend!
