Our week was filled with wonderful explorations, especially with open-ended loose parts. We used pieces of aluminum foil rolled into balls to really work our fine motor muscles and had a fun guessing game about what might be inside. We turned recycled tubes into train hills, bridges and tunnels. Corks became train cars and something to stack. It’s always fascinating to observe these different methods of using common materials- at first the children kind of ignore that it’s even out and ready for them to play with. They take time to think about how to approach it and why. Once an idea forms, the play really begins and flows into many varied play scenarios.

We also started to embrace the season of Spring by doing some seed germination. We used paper towel “blankets” to envelope our lima bean seeds. We then placed the “blankets” into the ziplock bag “bed.” We added some water in case the seeds get thirsty while they are resting. Now we will wait and see how long it takes for the seeds to wake up! Any predictions?

And our cooking/restaurant/menu project has continued this week. We worked on trying to make our own recipes (and some of us revisited the menu concept instead). Not everyone has had a turn yet, but we can’t wait to see what delicious foods we can learn to make very soon!
