CLASSROOM HIGHLIGHT: 1A

As Educators, How Can We Assist Our Students as They Make the Transition into Their New Classroom Setting?

This year, the 1A class will focus on the ways that music can be utilized as a soothing and transitional tool in our classroom. We believe that singing and music, in general, is a great way to ease separation and transition moments in the classroom.

During morning drop off we have observed how music immediately catches the children’s attention, drawing them in — calming their bodies and allowing them to focus and relax.

Morning circle time has been essential to the beginning of each school day. As they sing each child’s favorite song(s), the toddlers gather together, visibly excited. It is obvious through their body language that they want to participate in singing and give voice to what the next song should be.

Starting school is a big adjustment for a toddler!

It is clear that transition and separation are the first developmental goals for the year. Before the deep learning process can begin, each child must first feel comfortable in their new surroundings. Music has played a very significant role in the 1A classroom and has allowed each child to reach a new level of comfort at school.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

We had a successful day of conferences and are lucky to have the parent involvement that we do. The teachers put a lot of time and work into reflection and documentation. It was nice to share with each family about their little ones. If you haven’t done so yet, please fill out this parent survey to help us have an understanding of your year so far.

NURISH TIP OF THE WEEK

RSVP for the math fair and plan a playdate by messaging a parent on the app to meet up around thanksgiving weekend if you’re in the city!
