Our week was science filled! We are in the middle of a germ experiment, creating mazes using pipes, and working on our incline plane topic for the science fair.

Apart from science, we continued signing in, worked on letter-sound recognition using puzzles, did lots of body moving in the gym, had yoga with Stelios, music with Andrew, Spanish con Raquel, and soccer with Coach Pajamas.

Our Science Filled Week

“Germs are yucky!” This week we started a germ experiment. We rubbed bread on a variety of places around the school to see if we could grow germs. The children made predictions on which one they thoughtOn day 3 of our experiment we sat around the table to observe the bread slices. We saw germs/mold starting to grow on one of the pieces. We drew our observations, and practiced writing “Day 3” in our science books.

How do germs spread? We sprayed a little water to our hands and sprinkled glitter on them. Then we gave each other high-fives to see what would happen with the glitter. Everyone had various colors of glitter on their hands! We discovered that germs can spread very easily.

On Wednesday we tried building by creating inclined planes.

We explored ramps of various inclines to see which cylinder would get to the bottom of the ramp first.

We even conducted an experiment in the bathroom to see if there are incline planes in the sink.

We did some engineering work on Friday to see if we could create a marble maze. The children worked together to put the pieces together, and then each child tested it out. None of the marbles ever made it to the bottom. Next week we have to do some problem solving to see what we have to change in order to make our mazes work.
