Wow- we cannot believe that four months have flown by so quickly! It feels like the first day of school was just a few short weeks ago. And now we are heading right into the holidays and then back for the “meat and bones” of our school year. The first part of the year is always more exploratory, more experiments and tests to see just what interests the children have, and just what activities they are interested in and can handle. When we return for the next half of the year, we will be getting a lot more involved in project work and be learning about topics for extended periods of time. As mentioned during our conferences, we will be introducing the alphabet, math games, acting, puppets, continued use of clay to develop our muscles, and a lot of attention on our fine motor muscles!

This week we continued our theme of giving. We finished the ornament making and handed out ornaments for every classroom at BMS. We finished making the gifts for our “secret Santa” and are sending the last ones home today. It was so exciting to make a present for one of our friends!

We had some new sensory experiences with our “snow” in the sensory bin. It does actually feel a bit wet and cold, and is definitely slippery on the ground. We explored some arctic animals as we played in the snow, and had fun creating a hide and seek game as the animals got buried beneath the snow drifts.

We read a lot of books this week, as is usual! Some of our favorites of the week include: The Polar Express, Jingle Bells, From Head to Toe, and Wheels on the Bus. We love to revisit favorites while we also include brand new stories into the mix.

For our specialist time we:

  • Made party mix with chex cereals and raisins with Diane.

  • Sang Jingle Bells and Feliz Navidad during Spanish

  • Enjoyed scoring goals with Coach Jojo

  • Requested a lot of wonderful songs to dance to during music with Emily

We hope you have a really wonderful holiday and Eudenis and I look forward to seeing everyone in 2019!
