This was a short but fun and busy week at Pre-K. We began to work on our self-portrait paper mache creations. During our discussions we like to talk about feelings, uniqueness, and the things we are proud of about ourselves. We also talk about the many faces we make and we are all different. We are so excited to see how the children will display their emotions through this art medium. We also experimented with liquids and solids. The kids first drew shapes on paper and then carefully traced the line over with baking soda. We mixed food coloring and vinegar together then observed the reaction when mixing the solid and liquid together. Resulting in the most amazing bubbly art creation.

The Self

The children are exploring emotions and facial expressions in both Spanish and English. For this fun activity we are creating three dimensional self portraits using paper mache!

Halloween Costume Ideas and Final Vote!

As we mentioned last week, we introduced the concept of voting in the Pre-K class. We all had a turn suggesting what our theme will be. The three final categories where Jobs, Animals and Ice Cream. We tallied the votes and together counted the final number of votes. Ice Cream was the highest with 8 votes. So for this year we will all be making our own ice cream costumes. Ideas and materials all welcomed. If you would like to come in the class and help us please contact us so we can also arrange that, the kids love special visitors.

Apple Picking!

Although the weather was not primal, we had a terrific time apple picking on Thursday. The kids enjoyed learning about how pumpkins grow, how squash and pumpkins are in the same family and they loved picking their own apples from the trees.

Milo’s Birthday!

On Friday we celebrated Milo’s birthday. Milo’s mom, Lauren came by and brought everyone muffins and a fruit salad which the kids devoured in seconds. She also brought in two of Milo’s favorite books and read them to the class. They really enjoyed celebrating Milo’s birthday by making birthday cards and giving him lots of hugs. Thank you to the Rosenfeld for making us part of Milo’s 4th birthday celebration!

Shared Snacks!

On Friday it was Kian’s turn to bring shared snacks. He got letter D and he got creative! We enjoyed 2 special stories and a delicious, gluten-free “Dirt” dessert with worms! Thank you to the Callahan family for today’s fun shared snack!
