Materialized Classroom

As you all may know by now we had special visitors this week! Specialists from Teaching Beyond the Square came by to give us the opportunity of exploring and experience the many ways we can repurpose recycled materials.

During the workshop, the children worked with materials/objects from our everyday lives that are often discarded, but could be repurposed or transformed into something new. encouraging creativity, problem solving, and action.

The children were curious and very engaged. They explored, created, and discussed many observations and past experiences with these materials. It was a very rich learning experience for them all.

We are currently asking for donations to design a better creation center in our Pre-K classroom.

Spiced Orange Pomander Ball

For our cooking day with Diane the children got to make these amazing natural air fresheners using the oranges you all donated and whole cloves. This was such a fun activities for the children everyone was so interested in the scent and were very focused in making designs. Please be sure to store these in your refrigerator to prevent them from molding. However, another fun tip could be is that if you have more cloves sitting on your seasoning cabinet add some more! Place these on your coffee table in a nice basket, it will make your home smell lovely!

Creating our own shades of paint

On this day we enjoyed the science and an art to mixing colors together to create new and fresh paint colors. Red, yellow, blue, black and white colors can be used to replicate any color or hue in the rainbow. The children got messy and experimented with mixing colors to reveal a variety of different shades which they got to name.

Pre-K partners

This week we spent our morning working in centers with a partner. During our morning meeting we shared some ideas on how we can get to know each other a little better. Some of the children have developed friendships and have spent a lot of time together. We are so happy to see friendships blossoming but we think it’s time to mix things up! We asked the children to share which friends they do not really get to play with a lot and that they would like to get to know better. We were so happy to see that the children responded very well to this and enjoyed their day with a partner.

Shared snack with Sam, Louisa, Cathy, and Matt!

Shared snack day was so fun! Sam’s family joined and shared a delicious Jam and sun-butter treat with us all. Sam’s dad, Matt, played fun holiday music. He taught us all about harmonicas, shakers, and tambourines. He also took many music request from the children.
