This week in the Pre-K the children were discussing the rainy weather. That lead the children to discuss about the season changes and especially what happens when it is raining outside.
A conversation about the weather:
Alexander: When you sleep all day the winter will come.
Aayush: It’s raining outside.
Rex: It’s Fall and rainy.
Alexander: When it’s raining the diggers can’t come out because they can slip. Rex: The don’t slip, only we slip.
Kian: Well they can slip.
Aayush: It’s winter that’s why I have my winter shoes.
Elizabeth: It’s not winter, it’s still summer.
Rex: No, it’s Fall! Look outside. The leaves are turning brown, yellow, orange, and red.
Josie: It’s not Fall because when it’s fall it’s snowing and it’s not snowing today.
Rex: It’s not snowing because it snows only in the winter time.
A discussion about volcanoes overheard in the clay center:
Angelo: “They explode lava. Lava hurts you because it’s fire. I think they have volcanoes in Brazil. Actually, I’m not sure. I went to Brazil but I didn’t see any volcanoes. What happens if you make a volcano out of clay and then you put it in the oven?”
Milo: “Maybe it would explode all over the classroom.”
Charlie: “It will blow int he class.”
Milo: “It will be filled”.
Angelo: “It will be filled with lava.”
Milo: “And then the lava would become sand and then you would be trapped and then you will turn into a big lava monster. And then you wont be a little kid anymore. “
Angelo: “But if you put your heart back in you will become normal again.”

Graydon: “Doing your bed, cleaning your room. Doing chores, that’s how you get money.”
Kian: “Clean up the floors if you make a mess, laundry.”
Aayush: “To do something.” “I clean my bedroom when it’s dirty.”
Josie: “I clean up my bedroom with a broom when it’s dusty and stuff.”
Rex: “My Julia does chores, and sometimes I help her. I clean up my plates.”
Charlie: “I help with my mommy, clean up toys.”
Hyebeen: “I clean up my bathroom and my bedding and my table and my chair.”
Alex: “I clean my table and I clean my sofa.”
Elizabeth: “ If you have a pet bird you have to feed it, and also if you have two pets, like two birds you have to feed them two times. If you forget they will go waaaa waaaa waaaa.”

Kian: “ I love my whole family so much. We go to my cousins house sometimes.”
Graydon: “When I go to sleep we sing a special song.”
Angelo: “My daddy puts me to bed and prays to santo and rubs my belly.”
Alexander: “I play with my papa and my daddy is working.”
School Wide Area of Research
Every year the school chooses a topic for a school wide research. Our topic for this year is PAINT! We are very excited to implement the topic in our curriculum. So you will see a lot of projects with paint all year long.
On Friday we started exploring painting with leaves and flowers.
Conversation about dinosaurs and meteors overhead at the sensory table.
Alex: “That’s the water.”
Sam: “Wait a second! We need dinosaurs!”
Alex: “There are no dinosaurs here.”
Sam: “But wait a second, we don’t have any crocodiles here!”
Alex: “Meteors crashed the dinosaurs.”
Sam: “Meteors are scary in real life. Asteroids where huge when they crashed the earth. This is dinosaur extinction.”
Rex: “One million, million, million years ago volcanoes exploded because asteroids crashed the earth.”
Sam: “They landed on earth.”
Rex: “ No, it CRUSHED!”
Charlie’s Birthday!
We had a busy week! We also celebrated Charlie’s birthday where she share some delicious fruit cones. They were really delicious, the kids kept asking for more.
So far we have celebrated two birthday’s. The first day of school we were so lucky to celebrate Alexander’s birthday!
