Special Events:
This week during Literacy week, the children joined read-alouds, participated in gardening with Maria, and meditated with Annabel. We are so happy to see that everyone has been enjoying the classroom assignments. Also, so many friends have started receiving their pre-k letters.
Here is what the children are currently working on…
Katerina has been practicing her letters and numbers. She is currently exploring watercolor and observational painting. She shared with the group some of her amazing creations: a colorful painted boat with ocean waves, and a tree with cherries. One observation we have made is her love of capturing the sun. She never seems to forget to paint a beautiful, bright sun! She and her family will sometimes go for walks on the beach to look for seashells. She shared some of her glittery seashell finds. She has also been working on her writing, we are so proud, and happy she is enjoying her time in Long Island.
Adela has been experimenting with paper, she created little people. She shared that she has been cooking, making waffles, and enjoying them with peanut butter. One of her favorite things to do while in Long Island is going for walks on the beach and searching for seashells.
Charlotte has been keeping herself busy buildings tents and working on mastering her name. She was so excited to give us a tour of her room in her Long Island home. Charlotte has been mostly excited about Literacy themed week. For “dress as your favorite pet day” she and her puppy Chester were identical twins!
Ellis shared with us his favorite things to do while at home are reading and playing the piano. Ellis’ is continuing his piano lessons on his computer since he is unable to go in person at the moment. He has also been busy working on maps.
Ellis: I cannot make a map of Manhattan and Brooklyn because Manhattan is too big and Brooklyn is too big. That would be a very long map. It would take so long.
What will you do with your maps? “If the Corona virus goes away by the time I am grownup I will travel the world with my maps.” -Ellis
Geneva has been busy gardening, she is currently growing vegetable people, she named them Furry and Fuzzy. She has also been interested in observing Maria’s growing stems. She named one of Maria’s carrots “lady carrot.” Geneva has been enjoying these past few sunny, city days on her roof with dad and walks with mom.She is currently working on a dragon fly and her caterpillars have safely arrived!
We are also proud that she has been keeping a notebook of everything she wants to learn about once we return to school.
“My mom and I went for a walk. We saw flowers. We are also ordering caterpillars!”
William has been practicing his reading skills. During one of our chats he read us a book by Mo Willems. He also has been enjoying playing a fun drawing game on his iPad with his dad. He has been working with layers, colors and patterns.
How to play the game?
William: You can make different layers and put them together by taping here, that makes all of the layers come together in the same picture. It’s really interesting.
One of his Creations: I put the red underneath and then I drew a helicopter over it. The red is the ground. I also made one with a blue background.
Ransom has been so excited to give us a tour of his house in Texas. He was mostly excited to show us how high he jumps on his trampoline. He has been practicing writing his name and mastering the letter S.
Mercer has been enjoying her time in Pennsylvania. She has been working on observational paintings and making her own bracelets at home. While at her home in NYC, she gave us a tour of her creation corner where she keeps all of her fun materials. Mercer has been super focused during our group chats, we had to capture her thinking face.
Malina has been having so much fun exploring the forest near her Boston home. She always has adventure stories to share with the group. She and her brother Yunes-Alexander even built a tree house! As you may know by now, Malina is an animal lover, she loves her puppy Fifi. She was so excited to share that she is caring for a new friend during this time. Her name is Lucy and she is “super big, calm, and sweet.”
